The design
Slide the glass back, and the living room, the terrace and the glass-sided pool become one space.
Lumen is two white volumes under thin, deep roof slabs. The slabs shade the glass in summer and frame the sky the rest of the year. Dark timber-look panels and a wall of gray stone sit against the white render.
The ground floor faces the pool. Sliding glass runs the length of the living and dining room, so in warm weather the wall opens and the terrace becomes part of the room. The pool has a glazed side wall, so the water shows from the garden as well as from the deck. The kitchen is a separate room with its own dining space: close to the table, out of sight of guests. A study, a bedroom, a bathroom with a tub, a WC and storage complete the level, and a few steps lead up to the front door.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, a family lounge for the evenings and a bathroom with a shower and double basin. The lounge opens to a large terrace behind a glass balustrade, an outdoor room above the garden.
Of our house plans with a pool, Lumen is the smallest, at 180 m² (1,938 ft²).
