The design
From the driveway you see two garage doors in a stone plinth; the house and its wraparound terrace sit on top.
Vela, Italian for sail, is named after its roof: a deep, thin flat slab that seems to hover over the terrace. The house is designed for a sloping lot and puts the slope to work.
The lower level sits partly in the ground. The two-car garage, about 40 m² (431 ft²), opens at driveway height. Beside it are a multipurpose room of about 30 m² (323 ft²) for a home cinema, a gym or a playroom, a mechanical room and storage. A stone-clad plinth wraps this level.
An outdoor stair leads up to the living level. The living and dining room, about 40 m² (431 ft²), steps out onto a terrace that wraps around the house behind a glass balustrade, under the deep overhang of the roof. The kitchen with its pantry and a study sit close by. Three bedrooms, a main bathroom and a guest WC complete the floor, so every room you use daily is on one level.
Timber-look cladding and warm render sit above the stone. If you would rather have the bedrooms on a full upper floor, Linea uses the same design language over two stories.
